Emergency Department

Bay Medical Sacred Heart is home to the Panama City area’s largest Emergency Department, with a second freestanding location that opened in Panama City Beach in June 2017.

Our main campus is home to the only Level II Trauma Center between Pensacola and Tallahassee in Northwest Florida, serving Bay, Gulf, Washington and Holmes counties. The Emergency Department at BMSH provides 24-hour emergent care for life-threatening injuries and illnesses. The Emergency Room contains three extra-large trauma rooms as well as 28 private treatment rooms including specialized areas for pediatrics, ENT, obstetrics, orthopedics, and psychiatry. Additionally, an eight-bed “Rapid Response” unit provides more rapid assessment and treatment of patients with illnesses and injuries that are not serious or life-threatening.

The Bay Medical Beach ER is a 9,125-square-foot facility with 10 treatment rooms, including space for trauma, OB/GYN, isolation and seclusion. The facility is 24/7 and is staffed with board-certified emergency medicine physicians. The $5.3 million project provides much needed emergency care for tourists, vacationers, snowbirds and our beach residents.

What to expect in the Emergency Room

After you arrive in our Emergency Department, you will be assessed by a triage nurse who will determine the level of care you need. If this assessment indicates a condition that may be critical, you will be seen immediately. We respect your time and we strive to take care of each patient as soon as possible.

Once evaluated by an emergency physician, you will move through the ER process as quickly as possible, seeing physicians, having labs taken and other tests performed as necessary to diagnose and provide you with the highest quality of care in an efficient manner.

With experience you can trust and the best in medical technology, the Bay Medical Sacred Heart Emergency Room provides quality care for life’s big and little emergencies for approximately 70,000 patients annually.

To access our Emergency Department on the main campus, please enter the hospital  on 7th Street from Highway 77. The ER is located on your right. Parking is across the street. However, on weekdays, you may use the free valet parking at the Admissions Entrance, which is just slightly further down 7th Street on the right.

The Beach ER is located at 11111 Panama City Beach Parkway (Hwy. 98), at the Bay Med at the Beach facility across the road from Publix and next to Sonny’s BBQ. The emergency entrance is on the far east side.
