We have two classes to help you in your birthing experience — a basic Childbirth Class and a Breastfeeding Basics class. Register for one or both classes by calling Bethany Willis, IBCLC Women’s and Children’s educator, at (850) 747-6456.

Join our caring and experienced staff for a free Childbirth Basics class that will help you prepare for labor and childbirth. Class meets one Saturday a month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Women’s and Children’s Pavilion, 615 N. Bonita Ave. To get to the classroom, take the elevator to the third floor. Follow the directions at the elevator for access to the secured floor.

Our goal is to provide expectant mothers and their support person, with information to help you make informed decisions about key issues surrounding your child’s birth. Topics covered in the Childbirth Basics Class include:

  • What to bring to the hospital
  • Signs of labor
  • Role of the support person
  • Breathing/relaxation techniques
  • Pain management options
  • Normal progress of labor and birth
  • What to expect when the baby arrives
  • What to expect from your newborn
  • Tour of our facility given by a Registered Nurse

We are also offering a free Breastfeeding Basics class for those who are planning on or considering breastfeeding. The class is held in the Women’s and Children’s third floor classroom and is taught by our lactation professionals. Class time is Saturday from 5-7 p.m. every other month. The class gives you a good foundation for breastfeeding and provides community resources to help you continue on your breastfeeding journey.

Topics covered in Breastfeeding Basics include:

  • Getting off to a good start
  • How to know baby is thriving
  • Latch on and positions
  • When to call for help
  • Community resources
  • Returning to work and breastfeeding
